I am posting this here for Toby.

Hello, If anyone could give me any rough estimate that is based on at least some background knowledge that would be great.

I have a 99 Ram 2500 with a Cummins and the NV4500. This clutch and transmission were recently rebuilt and beefed up before I bought it about a month ago. Warranty is not included so that is not an option. I am running about 150-200hp over stock so I need something to withstand about 550-600hp just to be safe. So here is the problem.. I was in third gear getting onto the highway. Threw the pedal to the floor and and shifted to fourth. As soon as I let off the clutch everything went boom and no I have no gears at all. The problem is not the fifth gear nut like these transmissions are notorious for breaking. I’ve been told could just be the clutch or I could have snapped the input shaft. I’m thinking I roasted the transmission because I have been taught to hope for the best but plan for the worst. Would anyone know what kind of price range I am looking at for a built transmission/clutch to withstand my hp/torque gains?

Ok, a sturdier dual-disc clutch, like those from Haisley and South Bend, typically cost between $1,200-$1,900. This will help you hold all that extra power. But in order for this upgrade to work, you’ll also want to switch over to a stronger 1 3/8″ input shaft. A built NV4500 with these upgrades, and a reinforced 5th gear can run you $2,500-$3,000 (plus core). ATS sells them, Part # 3119542212. Or, if you know of a good transmission shop, they might be able to build you an NV4500 for a little less money. And, you’ll be able to pick the specific components that they use.
