Notice from Better Business Bureau

“BBB is continuing to receive reports about a company that has been on BBB’s radar since 2015 and has been the subject of multiple recent investigations. Quality Used Transmissions, a company that falsely claims to operate in Grand Rapids, MI, at 2525 East Paris Avenue, SE, Suite 100, appears to be part of a multi-state auto parts business that has generated hundreds of BBB complaints and negative reviews nationwide. One complaint in particular even led to a Wisconsin lawsuit and criminal complaint being filed against the suspected fraudulent company in 2017.

Past investigations have revealed that Quality Used Transmissions also operates under at least 10 other names spanning several states, such as Auto Recycling, Engine & Transmission World, Southwest Engines, and possibly Got Engines, Midwest Auto Recycling LLC, Quality Used Engines, Remanns, Remanns Premium Engines, Remanns Premium Used Engines, and many more.”

Grand Rapids, MI (July 28, 2017) — Earlier this week, the State of Wisconsin filed a lawsuit and criminal complaint following several years of investigation against Engine Shopper LLC and its affiliates, several online companies that sell used auto engines and transmissions. Engine Shopper operates under at least 10 different unique names and web addresses including Auto Recycling, Engine & Transmission World, SW Engines and Quality Used Transmissions, and has virtual offices spanning across Michigan, Wisconsin, Eastern Missouri and Oklahoma.

Quality Used Transmissions (formerly known as Quality Used Engines) has an office in Grand Rapids listed at 2525 E. Paris Ave SE. However, building management of this address told the BBB in 2015 that Quality Used Transmissions had never been a tenant. BBB contacted the company asking for their true physical location, but never received a response to the request.

This is the last email I wrote to USED.REMANNS Transmission about a ‘Warranted’ and ‘Tested’ transmission they sold me in April 2023 for my 2001 Acura CL Type S.

I had you generate this quote to verify some things about your advertisements and your company.

It is truly amazing that USED.REMANNS continues to find these transmissions with “~60K miles” on them! *Lie Number 1!* Is the approximate (‘~’) anywhere from 60K to infinity because the transmission I ordered in April and received in May was supposed to have approximately 60K miles on it.

After the USED.REMANNS transmission installation – when cold it wouldn’t move the car (in Drive/D5 or any gear) unless the engine was revved. Then it would jump into gear. The USED.REMANNS transmission would not put power to the wheels at all once the operating temperature was reached. Your company advertises that all Transmissions have been tested. **Lie Number 2!** It arrived damaged, the clutch packs burned out and NO proof it was tested prior to being shipped to my mechanic’s ASE Certified repair facility. To say the very least – this is suspect. But with an overall review rating of 1.4 out of 5 and hundreds of reviews on record plus an ‘F’ rating from the Better Business Bureau, this should have been expected. Unfortunately I did not do the research on your disreputable company prior to ordering.

Then of course USED.REMANNS refuses to honor the 12 month 12,000 mile warranty. ***Lie Number 3!*** This is because my mechanic did not specifically list the transaxle fluid cooling reservoir filter change which he did state generally on the original invoice, Quote: “REMOVED ALL DAMAGED COMPONENTS FROM TRANS PROBLY CAUSED BY SHIPPING AND SWAPPED OVER CUSTOMER SENSOR AND PARTS”. Yes the filter was replaced and yes I supplied the new filter. That’s why it is not listed on the invoice with the fluids.

Sincerely,

POS Engine. I order an engine from them. It was a POS when it arrived. Had my credit card company reimburse my money. Company would not. They still have not reimbursed my money for having it put in.

CROOKS!

I bought an engine for my Ford f150 that was supposed to have 83k miles on it. Got it, looked like someone wiped their butt with it. Mechanic installed it and 2 of the cylinders were low compression; engine totaled plus crank shafts are toast.

This is after they took 3 weeks to deliver it because they were doing such a “thorough” inspection of the engine or probably cutting it out of some piece of garbage at the junk yard (arrived looking like they used a cutting torch on some pieces).

I emailed them and spoke with the motor refund guy and he said “engine worked fine, we have a video of it running”. Dude obviously trying to weasel his way out of the refund. I asked him to send me the video with the serial number of the engine in the video to cross reference as well as a test showing compression was good. He didn’t address that and said he submitted the claim. I demanded he pay for my 2.3k labor costs for my mechanic to put in the crappy engine and he gave me a number to contact the support person for the labor side of the refund.

I called the refund number and this lady answered and said “we don’t refund initial installations of the motor, we only pay for the labor if the motor blows and you have to have a new one installed.”. So now I am stuck with a $2.3k installation bill on top of the $2k I spent on the engine. Too boot, now I have to spend another $1k to remove the installed engine to send back to them to MAYBE get $2k refund. They tell me as well shipping isn’t free if they find anything “wrong” with the engine, which based on all the reviews about their corruption, I am sure they will try to find a way to weasel their way out of paying me the full amount.

After doing some research I found out that their parent company was sued by the state of Wisconsin in 2017 for ripping people off as remanns.com is apart of a parent company that runs this scam in many different states under many different LLC names.

I ordered a transmission Aug 6,2021 and after 3 weeks of waiting with no delivery date or tracking number I finally cancelled the order. I paid $950 and they charge me $750 for canceling the order… it’s a SCAM…
Stay away from these cons

I ordered a transmission from them and came totally damaged. I paid $1600 and aftrer returning the damaged transmission, they only refunded me $710 and charged me transportation and restocking fee. They are scamming people. FBI should get involved.

Remans used engines was my worst experience, they are a “little” nice while you are buying, but after…… they are really bad and nasty for the warranty, they do not care at all, I called them so many times and left messages, I talked to the manager and other guy and both hanged up on me. Disaster!!! Think 1000000 times before buying in Remans

Hi my name is Randy and I’m looking for others to join in on a class action against the parent co. Engine Shopper LLC is the parent co.

of Remanns Engine and many other entities too long to list here. You don’t have to do a thing but give a detailed report of what happened. Dates, order numbers, and amounts are critical. and if you know who you talked to would help but not necessary.

you can email me at randyahood@***.com if you’re in Calif is a plus.

I’ve got the case put together which I’ll send you if your interested. Thanks, Randy H

Hi Randy,
I’m in Fairfield, CA and would like to talk to you about your experience with USED.REMANNS.
In April 2023 they sold me a used “tested” transmission that arrive damaged (Transmission cooler reservoir Filter badly dented, duel solenoid assembly broken, dip stick tube badly bent) and would not move the car when cold unless the engine was revved. Once operating temperature was reached the USED.REMANNS transmission would move the car at all! USED.REMANNS now refuses to honor their advertised warranty because my ASE certified mechanic did not specifically list the filter replacement which was done with a new filter. We had no choice as the filter that came on the transmission was destroyed and my mechanic stated that ALL damaged parts were replaced. This company is a bunch of scam artists and liars.

Sincerely,
Peter Ferron
