Many modern vehicles allow you to manually shift an automatic transmission using either the gear selector or paddle shifters behind the steering wheel. If the electrical switch that allows you to upshift is not performing properly, a P2775 DTC will be saved.

How Serious is the Code?
In terms of severity, a P2775 diagnostic trouble code isn’t going to leave you on the side of the road. But you probably won’t be able to manually shift the transmission.
Symptoms
Symptoms of a P2775 include:
- Manual shifting disabled
Causes
- Upshift switch failure
- Wiring issue
- Shifter assembly failure
- ECU programming issue
How to Diagnose the Code?
To determine what is causing a P2775 OBDII trouble code, a mechanic will need to first check the condition of the wiring and connectors on the transmission wiring harness. Manufacturer TSBs may also shed some light on the issue. If no issues are found, then the upshift switch itself may need to be tested, along with possibly the shifter assembly.
