In order to provide manual shifting capability, the auto stick shift switch/transmission shift switch connected to the shifter, sends an electrical signal vehicle’s computer to let it know what gear you would like to actuate. If there is an intermittent problem somewhere between this switch, the mode actuator or the wiring/connectors, a P0959 DTC will be saved.

In order to diagnose a P0959 OBDII trouble code, your mechanic should start by checking all of the wiring and connectors around the shifter for signs of damage and corrosion. They will also need to check the transmission shift switch sure that it works properly.
