The transmission fluid pressure sensor is responsible for telling the ECU how much fluid pressure is inside the transmission at any given time. If the vehicle’s computer receives a signal level that does not match the preset parameters, a P0867 DTC will be saved.

How Serious is the Code?
If the transmission does not have enough fluid pressure, not only can serious drivability issues occur. But the transmission itself could experience serious internal damage. So a P0867 diagnostic trouble code is very serious.
Symptoms
Symptoms of a P0867 include:
- Transmission overheating
- Slipping
- Failed gear engagement
Causes
- Dirty transmission fluid
- Low transmission fluid level
- Transmission fluid leak
- Transmission pump failure
- Failed transmission fluid pressure sensor
- Damaged wiring/connectors
- Overheated transmission
- Overheated engine
- Transmission fluid temperature sensor failure
How to Diagnose the Code?
One of the biggest causes of a P0867 OBDII trouble code, is dirty or low transmission fluid. Transmission fluid leaks can also cause this problem, along with damaged wiring or connectors on the transmission wiring harness. If none of these issues are present, then the transmission fluid pressure sensor and transmission fluid temperature sensor should be checked. If no issues are found, then the transmission pump or another internal transmission part could be to blame.

- Replace the transmission pump
- Replace transmission fluid pressure sensor
- Replace transmission fluid temperature sensor
- Replace or repair transmission
