NV3500 Transmission Overview
Designed as the result of a joint venture between Chrysler and General Motors, the NV3500 transmission is a medium duty 5-speed manual transmission that was shared between the two automakers from 1993 – 2006. It had fully synchronized forward and reverse gears, and could withstand between 300 lb-ft in the NV3500 medium duty, and 340 lb-ft in the NV3500 heavy-duty transmission. There were a number of differences, but all of these gearboxes had a two-piece aluminum case with an integrated bellhousing and top mounted shifter. The combination of ball and roller bearings are used to hold both of the transmission shafts inside of the two housings. All of the gears rotate on needle bearings for smooth operation
