What are the DTC codes related to Isuzu NPR transmission problems?
P0766 – Failed Shift Solenoid D – This DTC can be stored when there is a problem with a shift solenoid or the valve body.
P2703 – Failed Friction Element D – This trouble code can be triggered by a failed friction element like a clutch disc.
P0720 – Failed Input Speed Sensor or Output Speed Sensor – This trouble code is caused by a bad speed sensor on the transmission.
P0730 – Incorrect Gear Ratio – This issue could be caused by a number of problems, including a fault in the transmission control module, dirty transmission fluid, or a bad transmission solenoid.
P0657 – Voltage Problem in the ‘A’ Circuit – This transmission problem is often caused by a short, or bad ground on the PCM or PCM wiring harness.
P0700 – Malfunction in the transmission control system – This DTC is often triggered when there is a problem with the TCM, a wiring harness, a solenoid, or the valve body.
P0715 – Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Malfunction – This code typically gets stored when the input sensor cannot read the engine RPM, which can prevent the transmission from appropriately shifting gears.
P0717 – Input/Turbine Speed Sensor No Signal – This trouble code is generated when the PCM does not get a signal from the input speed sensor, which will prevent the computer from being able to determine when the transmission needs to shift.
P0791 – Intermediate Shaft Speed Sensor ‘A’ Circuit – This error can occur when there is a problem with the intermediate shaft speed sensor, most likely due to a bad sensor, wiring problem, or a failed shift solenoid.
P0793 – Intermediate Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit No Signal – The computer will generate this DTC when it cannot communicate with the intermediate shaft speed sensor.

Can I drive with a transmission problem?
If your Isuzu NPR can still make it up and down the road, you might say “It’s fine, I’ll just drive it until I can get it fixed”. But that is not always a good idea, depending on the symptoms. You see, there are a lot of (very expensive) moving parts inside of a transmission, and if something isn’t right, continuing to drive with a transmission problem could damage something else.
How often does a Isuzu NPR transmission need to be replaced?
The overall lifespan of a Isuzu NPR transmission largely depends on how well it was maintained. Factory design flaws also factor into this equation, along with how/how hard you drive. But on average, we’ve seen the Isuzu NPR transmission last for between 130,000-180,000 miles. A high quality replacement transmission however, can last considerably longer if all of the factory design flaws have been addressed and the vehicle has been maintained.
How are Isuzu NPR transmission issues diagnosed?
It is fairly easy to guesstimate what the root cause of your Isuzu NPR transmission problems might be, but you won’t truly know unless you have the right tools and experience. A good mechanic or transmission repair center will be able to connect your truck to a computer and find out which diagnostic trouble codes (DTC’s) have been stored. Once they know what to look for, they can perform a visual inspection to verify the problem.
How is a Isuzu NPR transmission replaced?
In order to replace your Isuzu NPR transmission, the truck has to be lifted from the ground in order to gain access to all of the parts that will need to be unbolted. Then the transmission can be lowered to the ground (typically with a transmission jack), so the new transmission can be installed.

How to Solve Isuzu NPR Transmission Problems
Solution A: Buy a Used Isuzu NPR Transmission
The quickest way to fix your transmission problems is to simply buy a used transmission or used transmission. These can be found at most junk yards, and they often come with a 30-90 day warranty. However, there’s no way to determine the actual condition of the internal components, so you could be spending a bunch of money to have the exact same problems. Plus, that warranty only covers the transmission if it’s defective, not the labor costs that you’ll have to pay.
Solution B: Buy a Rebuilt Isuzu NPR Transmission
Another option would be a rebuilt transmission or rebuilt transmission. A local repair shop will remove your transmission, then install a bunch of new parts during the rebuild. The problem here is, the skills and experience of each transmission rebuilder will vary widely from shop to shop, so you could have problems from something that wasn’t adjusted properly. And the 1-2 year warranty might only cover you at certain transmission repair shops, in a specific geographical area.
Solution C: Buy a Remanufactured Isuzu NPR Transmission
Many owners depend on their vehicle to commute and get things done. Their gasoline engines are designed to go 100’s of thousands of miles, so it makes sense to invest in a remanufactured transmission.

Gears just started slipping. I changed the filter and gasket and added new fluid but does exactly the same thing can’t take to shop cause it won’t hardly move
Shudders in reverse
hi! I have a 2001 isuzu npr diesel truck, the problem with my transmission is when it is time to make the change from second gear onwards, I feel that the engine makes more revolutions than normal, so I have to stop stepping the accelerator, when I feel that it is appropriate that it needs to go to the next gear and that works, but I know that this is not normal, I have also seen that when going at high speed, for example in the freeway, when I park I see that a little fluid leaks from the transmission and at the same time I see that it is a bit hot, I have been looking for similar cases but I am still not sure what the solution to that is or if I definitely need to completely repair the transmission, I do not want, that that is going to be necessary a repair like that, because I know that it is very expensive and I have the hope that it will be something less. I would be very grateful if you could help me understand more about it, anyway thank you very much
It won’t shift into high gear

Tcc stuck open
I’m not sure it’s trans mission problem but it has to be connected one way or another but usually it happens when I’m just driving if I have to give it pedal like a little hill or maybe passing some one but it try to kick down and just can’t then the low vacuum light comes on the vac pump starts and the check transmission light comes on and it’s a dog like dragging dead weight up a ladder and I will pull over and shut it off wait 30 seconds and start it back up and everything is fine and some times during that whole process it will over heat well goes up almost to H but comes down fairly quick if just back off a little and I have replaced dam near everything from the thermostat to the antenna
Car:Isuzu nqr 5.2 2006 model
When i drive automatic trans mode sadenly it goes manual mode. When i start it again it fixes but when i drive it makes same thing again.
How can i fix it.

I just bought 2006 5.2l diesel with 240 miles. I drove 10 kms and a/t oil temp light comes on, transmission delayed shifting at about 2500 rpm. Check transmission oil wasn’t very good and drove 5 km and a/t light goes off and normal shifting. Drove about 5 km again light comes on and shifting problem then I just parked my truck to shop. They said need transmission. Rebuilding transmission cost $500 and to replacing $1000.
Can the transmission filter just simply be replaced without having to flush it? Just wondering cause I have a pretty severe leak coming from a dent on the side of the filter
I have a 98 Isuzu npr 5.7 automatic and problem that I’m having is that my park lights don’t work and temp gauge does not and the main problem is that the transmission is stuck in one gear drive wount engage reverse
Have a 2000 npr hd a/t that slips when cold going from park to drive. No leaks , clean full fluid, shifts great when warm
i have a 2010 isuzu npr and is dripping red fluid from the filter that is beside the battery case and blowing it on the sude of the battery case
2009 Isuzu NPR code P0700. Random hard shifts. 208,000 miles. Runs great till this started. Hoping shift solenoid is problem
Refuses to go gear
1989 Isuzu NPR Turbo Diesel A/T…has a Jerridan roll bed that runs off the transmission PTO. This is a Tow Truck. Yesterday felt a little harder shift during 1-2 ….then noticed slipping in the transmission…tried to remove the vehicle from the roll bed but the PTO would not operate either…Did a transmission fluid check per the shop manual instructions and it was full… didn’t smell funny or burnt… I f you wait till it gets cool after setting 10 minutes or so it will go into gear and move forward or backwards for a short time (maybe a block) and then start slipping again….Any ideas ?
