2003-2007 HUMMER H2 – 2006-2007 HUMMER H3 – 2005-2007 Saab 9-7X
Problem – Drivers may experience the loss of 3rd and 4th gear, erratic shifting, slipping, freewheeling above 30 mph and a P0757 DTC.
Solution – In order to repair this transmission problem, the 2-3 shift valve, 2-3 shuttle valve, and the valve bore will need to be cleaned of any debris. The 2-4 band and/or 3-4 clutches may also need to be inspected and changed.
Common Hummer H3 Transmission Problems
Intermittent harsh shifting – 4L60E Transmission
Problem – A common 4L60E transmission problem is an intermittent hard 1-2 shift, often accompanied by engine bogging. This condition can be caused by the torque convertor clutch applying during the shift.
Solution – To remedy the problem, the wiring harness needs to be inspected from the transmission case connector to the rear of the engine on the driver side. It’s possible that the wires for the TCC solenoid and pressure control solenoid have become frayed on a body seam. If this is the case, the wiring will need to be repaired, and the harness repositioned.

Can I drive with a transmission problem?
If your Hummer H3 can still make it up and down the road, you might say “It’s fine, I’ll just drive it until I can get it fixed”. But that is not always a good idea, depending on the symptoms. You see, there are a lot of (very expensive) moving parts inside of a transmission, and if something isn’t right, continuing to drive with a transmission problem could damage something else.
How often does a Hummer H3 transmission need to be replaced?
The overall lifespan of a Hummer H3 transmission largely depends on how well it was maintained. Factory design flaws also factor into this equation, along with how/how hard you drive. But on average, we’ve seen the Hummer H3 transmission last for between 130,000-180,000 miles. A high quality replacement transmission however, can last considerably longer if all of the factory design flaws have been addressed and the vehicle has been maintained.
How are Hummer H3 transmission issues diagnosed?
It is fairly easy to guesstimate what the root cause of your Hummer H3 transmission problems might be, but you won’t truly know unless you have the right tools and experience. A good mechanic or transmission repair center will be able to connect your truck to a computer and find out which diagnostic trouble codes (DTC’s) have been stored. Once they know what to look for, they can perform a visual inspection to verify the problem.
How is a Hummer H3 transmission replaced?
In order to replace your Hummer H3 transmission, the truck has to be lifted from the ground in order to gain access to all of the parts that will need to be unbolted. Then the transmission can be lowered to the ground (typically with a transmission jack), so the new transmission can be installed. Once it is in place, for the 6L80, the vehicle PCM will have to be reprogrammed / reflashed to accept the new transmission using the latest GM subscription.

How to Solve Hummer H3 Transmission Problems
Solution A: Buy a Used Hummer H3 Transmission
The quickest way to fix your transmission problems is to simply buy a used transmission or used transmission. These can be found at most junk yards, and they often come with a 30-90 day warranty. However, there’s no way to determine the actual condition of the internal components, so you could be spending a bunch of money to have the exact same problems. Plus, that warranty only covers the transmission if it’s defective, not the labor costs that you’ll have to pay.
Solution B: Buy a Rebuilt Hummer H3 Transmission
Another option would be a rebuilt transmission or rebuilt transmission. A local repair shop will remove your transmission, then install a bunch of new parts during the rebuild. The problem here is, the skills and experience of each transmission rebuilder will vary widely from shop to shop, so you could have problems from something that wasn’t adjusted properly. And the 1-2 year warranty might only cover you at certain transmission repair shops, in a specific geographical area.
Solution C: Buy a Remanufactured Hummer H3 Transmission
Many owners depend on their vehicle to commute and get things done. Their gasoline engines are designed to go 100’s of thousands of miles, so it makes sense to invest in a remanufactured transmission.

Start it up go down the the road an then the Tran stop like it’s in neutral an a grinding noise the transmission inside is spinning an the the truck is not moving pull over try it off wait a few minutes start it up go down the road it does the same thing go about 1000 ft
I was driving down the highway doing about 60 and all of a sudden it just looks like it shifted in neutral I no gears nothing whatsoever no reverse all is got is Park and when I start the motor there’s a clicking sound underneath I can’t tell where it’s coming from
2007 hummer h3 wont shift into 3rd gear..no transmission codes detectected..will this code be the reason it’s not shifting PO503 speed sensor A intermittent?
I have an 07’ H3. She has 148,453 miles and is driven almost 300+ miles every other weekend for custody exchanges and is also my daily driver.
The transmission is slipping at about 3rd gear, rpms are struggling to reach higher at all, there is very little power and I have a header? That is seeping ??
I have only had one check engine light warning but it went off on its own. I lost a spout component in the gas tank and haven’t been able to fish it out…
My 2008 Hummer H3 can be driven about 4 miles them it won’t move in any gear not will the brakes work.Let it sit for awhile and it does back into all gears and is drinkable for a few more miles and does the same thing. I also have 2 cylinders that are misfiring. (210k) miles on car.
Hummer doesn’t go over 20 miles an hour
I have a 200 6H3 Hummer and this is my second rebuilt transmission to be put in it and it drives fine for a while on the highway approximately 20 miles or so and then it slips it seems like it slipped out of overdrive the RPMs go up if I stop at shifts really hard it acts like it’s out like the transmission gets hot and then it runs really bad as long as the transmissions call it runs good
On my 2nd new tranny from GMC on 2009 H3. Still slips in drive and 3rd under 20 mph . Intermittently. GMC repair doesn’t know what it is!
Could be the wires going from transmission to back o motor.
What will cause a 2007 Hummer3 to not shift into gear ?
My 2007 Hummer will not shift into gear
Had transmission rebuilt, mechanic can not get to engage, said the TPS is showing ,as bad, but has checked ALL sensors & they work fine,, any help to resolve the issue greatly apricated,
Wires could be grade on driver side from transmission to motor common problem on hummers.
My 08 H3 won’t go in reverse and drive in neutral. Doesn’t feel no different when I am driving only that I cant reverse. Could there be something else besides transmission?
guess i should of said its an o8 h3 with 3.5 5 cylinder just over 100000 4l60e auto trans now my 02 avalanche with 5.3 v8 has more miles and that trans runs great
slips in 3rd and 4th just started
HAD FRONT PUMP REPLACED IN MY H2 TWICE WITHIN 20,000 MILES WHAT COULD CAUSE THIS
I only had 64,000 miles on mine when it went out. Wrote a letter to the CEO of the company to try and get them to help me since the low mileage on the truck. It was very frustrating that all they cared about was giving a 1,000 for a trade in. GMC wanted $4200 to fix. Lol I paid $2400 and kept my truck. No one’s transmission should go out at that low of mileage. Just saying.
Had my transmission go out on my Hummer at 63,946 miles. Got a new transmission at that point in time. I now have 135,000 miles on it, and having transmission issues again…
2006 h3 have problem with pass lock system. Bought the parts nessessary to fix. Still no start.
I have an 06 h3 with tranny issues, all started with two wires being cut or broke some how one to a coil the other to throttle body , which made a few lights flash in the cluster . No power , traction loss , disconnected battery fixed the wires an the lights went out , but pulling out now the tranny slips very bad in 1st gear . An doesn’t shift right into the others , if I disconnect battery an reconnect it it’s fine until I stop an try to start again, I’m st a loss any help would be greatly appreciated.
I ran over 2 armadillos at 75mph, they struck where the transmission and transfer case join causing a 4″ crack with leaking fluid; as well as striking the transmission end (where u joint yolk is inserted) causing a 3″ by 4″ chunk of the transmission to breakaway.
I have 190K miles on the truck, never been off roaring, have transmission serviced every 30K to 50K miles, never had a leak, no rattling, no vibrations and no clunking when put into gear. Untill 5 to 7 miles after hitting the armadillos; then a roaring (like one of my allterrain tires was going flat) along with a vibration in steering. Stopped to check tires, noticed the transmission fluid leak, called tow truck. Dealer service center says it looked to them like u joints were worn, caused vibrations in driveline causing transmission peice to breakaway and crack in transfer case. Cost to repair at dealer is over $7000! What do you think?
$7000.00?….I swear,…at dealerships across the country they must all gather in a back room and smoke a gargantuan amount of crack. Only after they get as high as they can do they determine the cost of repair. I am sure no one actually diagnoses the vehicle, merely a few big hits on the crack pipe and, ‘Shazam!’..“Sir/Ma’am that will be six grand,…wait, did I say Six? I meant seven. That’s it….seven thousand bucks to replace that twenty dollar part. The rest is labor” Yeah, because you can bet they’re laboriously chiefing away on that crack pipe.
