Problem – Vehicles equipped with the 4L60E and 4L65E transmission may become stuck in third gear, the instrument cluster may not function, and the following DTC’s may be set: P0740, P0753, P0758, P0785 and P1860.
Solution – The most likely cause of this transmission problem is a blown fuse or an open on circuit 1020 between the fuse panel and the transmission. If no battery voltage is found at the fuse, the ignition switch will need to be replaced

Problem – It is possible to experience no movement when the transmission is shifted into Drive or the 3rd gear position. It is possible to experience normal operation when the transmission shifted into second, first or reverse.
Solution – Replace the forward sprag assembly
TSB 00-07-30-022D – No reverse, second or fourth gears – 4L60E Transmission & 4L65E Transmission

Problem – Drivers may experience the loss of reverse, second and fourth gears. First and third gears will seem to function normally
Solution – The reaction sun gear may fail inside of the sun shell. It will need to be replaced with a stronger heat-treated 4L60E / 4L65 sun gear.
Common GMC Envoy Transmission Problems
Intermittent harsh shifting – 4L60E Transmission
Problem – A common 4L60E transmission problem is an intermittent hard 1-2 shift, often accompanied by engine bogging. This condition can be caused by the torque convertor clutch applying during the shift.
Solution – To remedy the problem, the wiring harness needs to be inspected from the transmission case connector to the rear of the engine on the driver side. It’s possible that the wires for the TCC solenoid and pressure control solenoid have become frayed on a body seam. If this is the case, the wiring will need to be repaired, and the harness repositioned.

Can I drive with a transmission problem?
If your GMC Envoy can still make it up and down the road, you might say “It’s fine, I’ll just drive it until I can get it fixed”. But that is not always a good idea, depending on the symptoms. Once it is in place, for the 6L80, the vehicle PCM will have to be reprogrammed / reflashed to accept the new transmission using the latest GM subscription.

How to Solve GMC Envoy Transmission Problems
Solution A: Buy a Used GMC Envoy Transmission
The quickest way to fix your transmission problems is to simply buy a used transmission or used transmission. These can be found at most junk yards, and they often come with a 30-90 day warranty. However, there’s no way to determine the actual condition of the internal components, so you could be spending a bunch of money to have the exact same problems. Plus, that warranty only covers the transmission if it’s defective, not the labor costs that you’ll have to pay.
Solution B: Buy a Rebuilt GMC Envoy Transmission
Another option would be a rebuilt transmission or rebuilt transmission. A local repair shop will remove your transmission, then install a bunch of new parts during the rebuild. The problem here is, the skills and experience of each transmission rebuilder will vary widely from shop to shop, so you could have problems from something that wasn’t adjusted properly. 05 envoy will not do anything in any gear ?
My 2008 GMC Envoy Denali (8cyl automatic) seems to lose pressure at about 50-55mph and hesitates during excelleration before reaching 60-65mph. Once up to cruising speed, no apparent problems. Maybe slipping out of 6th gear?

I picked up my sisters 2004 envoy in NC drove down 85 to Atlanta. When I exited the interstate the transmission would not function. No trans fluid showed on the dip stick. I put a quart in it and drove about 30 miles basically in third gear. It would work from a stop through 1st and 2nd gear and by tapping the gas pedal I could get it into third gear. After I got home I changed the fluid and filter. It had never been serviced in 14 years. I was told it needed rebuilt but I wonder because it had an error code that said tic was stuck shut. But after disconnecting the battery for cleaning there are no codes. I am driving it around short trips 1st & 2 Nd seem fine tap the gas most of the time it will go into third but will not shift into fourth. It will sometimes shift out of second into neutral. I can manually shift into second and off I go. I have been thinking about replacing the solenoids that I can get to but not sure if it is worth the effort. I you have any recommendations I would appreciate your thoughts

My friend has a 2004 envoy, it was over filled with transmission fluid, now it only has 1st and 2nd gear, no 3rd or 4th. It shifts from 1st to 2nd no problem, then 2nd to 3rd is nothing, its like your in neutral, so of course no 4th gear. The transmission was rebuilt less then 6 months ago. So is it possible that the over fill caused the 3-4 pack to fry.

I have a 2005 GMC Envoy replace the engine connected to the transmission to the engine and now it will not shift at all I don’t know if a torque converter is in the whole way or not I pulled the transmission lines apart by the radiator and there is no fluid coming out at all when it is running

Had remanufactured unit installed on my 2005 Envoy due to old one slipping at 126,000 miles. New unit vibrates at idle. Installer checked torque converter and driveplate and said they were not the issue.
They placed the water pump, fan clutch, tensioner and belt. Still has vibration. No codes, plugs are 1.5 yrs old and 3,000 miles. Throttle body clean.

I have a 2006 GMC Envoy, Two wheel drive with 470,000 miles. Engine, body are in great condition. Vehicle gets up to 50 mph and every so often feels like vehicle, trans is slipping. Drives great otherwise. Major/minor problem. Trans fluid never been changed? Could possibly be sediment?

Few weeks ago received a code of p0480 on 2005 GMC Envoy 2wd and wouldn’t go pass 40 mph, stuck in 2nd gear basically. A few days later automatic transmission gave out completely. Towed it to transmission shop and now they’re saying after fixing it. That it keeps burning out the 4th gear or not going into 4th gear. They think it’s an electrical issue. Would the code cause that to happen or be related to the problem?
I have a 2002 GMC Envoy with 130,000 miles. Lately I noticed a whining sound. My check engine light came on about a 1 week or two later P0495, telling me the Fan Speed is High. I replaced the Cooling Fan Motor Relay. No Change. My local reputable repair shop told me that it is the Cooling Fan Clutch. I picked one up at Auto Zone and they installed it. I still have the same problem. Now I think it may be the transmission. If I gun it, it seems to get louder and it feels like slippage (not sure). Any ideas here?
