Problem – A lack of power after the 1-2 shift can be caused by an un-commanded torque converter clutch application / TCC apply. The P0742 and/or P1742 DTCs may also be stored.
Solution – The #7 check ball inside of the valve body may have worn down to an incorrect size, allowing the torque converter clutch to apply after the 1-2 shift. Replacement of this check ball may solve the problem.

Ford Crown Victoria 3rd gear slipping often occurs on 2001 and later models that are equipped with the 4R70W/4R70E or 4R75E transmission. You’ll know it’s happening if the transmission seems to shift into neutral during the 3-4 shift. It’s also possible that you won’t have any engine braking if you manually shift down into 2nd gear.

I have a 2007 P71. I bought her with only 75K miles and when I reached around 85K miles the transmission completely lost all forward gears. The day she went out was the only day the toward gears started slipping. Everyday day before she shifted fine with no slipping at all then when I noticed her to start slipping I tried to get her parked at home but I didn’t make it before I lost all forward gears completely. There is no burning smell at all but is a slight knock from the back of the motor I believe, maybe near the flywheel. When in reverse she still drives like a champ but when I put it in D,1,or 2 then she just revvs up as if she is in neutral.

1995 Crown Vic. Problem started at 45,000 miles, car now has 54K. Florida car, now living in MN. Transmission randomly drops out of torque converter lockup and/or will then downshift to passing gear without throttle input. Occasionally will completely come out of gear. Only does this when thoroughly warmed up. Fluid was clean and no pan debris other than machining remnants in the filter. Fluid and filter changed.
Never acts up when cold! Speeds can be anywhere from 40 to 70 mph. Usually with steady state throttle. Happens with or w/o cruise control on.
External Range selector adjusted but not replaced, by Ford (This is my pick of likely possibilities along with internal pressure control solenoid.) I get the feeling of heat being a cause of the solenoid breakdown. Also, would a throttle position sensor act like this?
I’m not a tranny guy but I do have a lot of time building/working on motors, street rods, etc. So, I’m obviously guessing. And, of course, no codes! Still acts up with OD off.

2009 Crown Victoria police interceptor 153,000 miles. Drives fine only when over drive is off. On which is how I normally drive it slips doesn’t want catch gear. So 4 th gear isn’t working and there are no trouble codes present

O/D generally reflects to improper communication between the vehicle (in various ways) & transmission. I had a problem of O/D flashing every now & then glowing the Check Engine light on with 2nd Gear slipping or hard on forwards then I checked the Speed cable going to the transmission found to faulty & then I tested the VSS Sensor too which was faulty. Replacing both has solved the problem now.
mohammed my vic is doing the exact same thing I think going into second makes a weird sound and rocks hard had never any issues the tranny was actually rebuilt so I’m guessing I may have the same issue
