Chevy Cobalt Transmission Recalls
2009 Chevrolet Cobalt Recall 09V073000 / 09041
Summary – On some 2009 Chevy Cobalt’s, the transmission shift cable adjustment clip may come loose, causing the gear indicator to display the wrong gear.
Consequence – If this problem occurs, the driver could remove the ignition key and exit the vehicle thinking the transmission is in Park, even though it isn’t. This can lead to a rollaway, which can cause injury and/or property damage. A lesser consequence would be the inability to start the vehicle because the transmission is not in Park.
Remedy – This recall began on March 24, 2009, and Chevrolet dealers were instructed to inspect and replace any affected transmission shift cable adjustment clips, free of charge. Owners can contact Chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438, referring to recall # 09041. Or they can call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236

Can I drive with a transmission problem?
Depending on the nature of your Chevy Cobalt transmission problems, it may be possible to continue driving it. But putting continual strain on your transmission can cause the problem to get a lot worse/more expensive. So if you want to save yourself a lot of headaches and money, you need to have the issue diagnosed immediately.
How often does a Chevy Cobalt transmission need to be replaced?
Maintenance (changing your transmission fluid/filter, fixing the leaks etc.), and your driving style clearly play a huge part in determining how long your Chevy Cobalt transmission will last. But factory design flaws also contribute. On average, we’ve seen the Chevrolet Cobalt 4T45E last between 120,000-180,000 miles.
How are Chevy Cobalt transmission issues diagnosed?
In order to properly diagnose Chevrolet Cobalt transmission problems, a scan tool will need to be connected to the car’s OBDII port. After the diagnostic trouble codes have been analyzed, a visual inspection can be performed to verify the problem.
How is a Chevy Cobalt transmission replaced?
Although this job can be performed by a do it yourself-er, it will require a fair amount of skill, along with the right tools. Partially removing the engine may make this job easier.

How to Solve Chevy Cobalt Transmission Problems
Solution A: Buy a Used Chevy Cobalt Transmission
Saving money is an important consideration for most people, so a used 4T45E transmission might be a tempting option. However, you may be spending more money in the long run because you don’t really have any way of knowing what kind of shape the internal components are in.
Solution B: Buy a Rebuilt Chevy Cobalt Transmission
To avoid the uncertainties of buying a used Chevy Cobalt transmission, you may consider buying a rebuilt 4T45E transmission from a mechanic or transmission repair shop. But if they use an OE master rebuild kit, the transformation will be taken back to the original factory specifications. So problems with things like the 4T45E reverse boost valve or 4T45E transmission pump slide pivot pin will eventually return. And the coverage from that rebuilt transmission warranty may be limited to the shop that built it, which means that you will have to pay for transmission repairs if you travel.
Solution C: Buy a Remanufactured Chevy Cobalt Transmission
To actually fix Chevy Cobalt transmission problems, the issue has to be dealt with so it does not happen again. A properly built remanufactured 4T45E transmission is designed to do to just that, by upgrading specific failure points like the TCC control valve and transmission pump. These modifications can greatly extend the service life and durability. Plus, if you can find one with a nationwide warranty, you won’t have to worry about transmission repair bills.

Have you fixed yet?
Just wondering if I should change my 2008 Chevy Cobalt transmission fluid and filter. Its never been changed iam at 155,000 i don’t want to flush might cause a problem just really want to make it last as long as I can. If I change it will my tranny start messing up.
I started having problems with RPM giong up so I had that fixed then two weeks later I notice burning smell and I only had 1st and 2nd gears it would barely go so I took it to transmission shop and was told it need a transmission I was told they could replace with a used one at cost of 2800 hundred dollars or a rebuild one for 3500 hundred dollars or a new one for 4500 hundred dollars, this was the second shop I took it two because the frist one was so booked and it would be a month or longer before they could get to it how ever they did give me a price of 1500 to do it.I not sure what to do I can purchase a new one my self for 1000 thousand dollars and pay the cost to have someone put it in.or I can just do nothing and purchase another car.I just don’t know if it would be worth my time and money to get it fix,I have to look at the cost how long it would last and other things ,I just don’t know.
My 2010 Cobalt drives forward but not in reverse. It hit 5500RPMs on the highway yesterday so i knew that something was wrong. I had an oil lube and filter done that morning and now i am left with a transmission that is half dead and needs to be either replaced entirely or re-built. I have never even heard of this happening to a vehicle that has only 76,000Kms on it. Is this normal in Cobalts now?
Shifts hard sometimes got a code of p1818 what could it be
No 1st or 4th gear
My Chey Cobalt will not shift gears and I Just had the fluid changed and a new strainer put in is their something that needs to be reset or what is going on with It
2009 chevy colbolt goes into reverse but when put in drive or any lower gear it acts like its in neutral the codes that show up are as follows p0010 p0011 p0013 p0014 n p0455. It was driving just fine then at light i went to go thru n up a slight upgrade n it wouldn’t go
I have a 2008 Chevy Cobalt 2.2 it ran just fine no sleeping hard shifting or any transmission problems then all of a sudden you put it in any gear and it won’t pull or try to pull it acts like it’s in neutral but the reverse lights come on in reverse the linkage is connected the transmission control module I have grounded myself any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated I’m driving myself crazy
I have a 2010 chevy colbalt.(98,000) I have had electrical issues in the past but I reported it and it was taken care of. Recently I started to smell gasoline and when I brought it in they said I needed a new gas line and it would cost approx. $650.00. I have owned a lot of cars in my life but I’ve never had a problem related to fuel leakage on top of that both front wheel bearings need to be replaced. I read how they recalled earlier year models for fuel issues but obviously they didn’t solve the problem because it’s still happening but now they just decided they were done paying for that particular problem I guess. A gas leak is a serious issue and knowing there have been problems with it in the past means that they are aware. I don’t understand how they are getting away with not paying or recalling additional cars because it didn’t get fixed as of 2009. It’s still happening.
2006 Chev. Cobalt w/116000 miles
My granddaughter stopped her 2006 Chev Cobalt at traffic light, when light changed and she tried to accelerate. the car didn’t respond for a few seconds, then slowly took off. After car started moving it was like it operated normally. It has done this 2 or 3 times over the past 2 weeks. Is there a fix for this car other than a transmission overhaul or replacement?
My cobalt has been doing the same thing but it is now to the point where it won’t even shift cuz I kept driving it if you find anything out can you let me know?
Is anybody replying anyways I’d like to see the answer somebody’s question

Mine is doing the same thing, but at the same time that happened: the service engine light came on (with transmission alerts) and I the traction light came on and won’t go away and it just says service traction. I have noooo idea what to do.
Is anybody replying to any of the questions I would kinda like to see some of the answers
