P0929: Gear Shift Lock Solenoid Control Circuit Range/Performance OBD-II Trouble Code

Having a P0929 DTC means that the gear shift lock solenoid is not performing in the range programmed into the ECU. This can be caused by a number of transmission problems, and it may prevent you from actually being able to drive your vehicle.

A number of things can cause a P0929 diagnostic trouble code, including low or dirty transmission fluid, and parking on a hill (which can cause the parking prawl to become lodged in the On position). Liquid damage from spilling a drink around the shifter may also cause this problem.

How to Diagnose the Code?

Since there are a number of transmission problems that can cause a P0929 OBDII trouble code, the diagnostic procedure should begin with a check of the transmission fluid condition, battery voltage, and any fuses or fusible links related to the gear shift lock solenoid. Wiring and connectors around the shifter should also be checked for signs of damage and corrosion. The gear shift interlock solenoid itself will also need to be tested, along with possibly the brake light switch.
