A pressure control solenoid is a little spring-loaded device the ECU/TCM uses to control the flow of pressurized transmission fluid inside the valve body to change gears. If a P2714 DTC has been stored, the computer has determined there’s an issue with the performance of this pressure control solenoid, or it’s become stuck in the off position.

How Serious is the Code?
If your vehicle has a P2714 diagnostic trouble code, means the computer cannot control this pressure control solenoid. What that means for you being is, a number of transmission problems including, slipping, engine stalling and overheating.
Symptoms
Symptoms of a P2714 include:
- Harsh, delayed and/or erratic shifting
- Slipping between gears
- Engine stalling
- Vehicle refuses to move in gear
- Transmission overheating
- Limp mode
Causes
- Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid/filter
- Damaged/corroded wiring and connectors
- Failed pressure control solenoid
- Failed transmission pump
- Valve body problems
- ECU/TCM software or functionality problem
How to Diagnose the Code?
Because a P2714 OBDII diagnostic trouble code gets triggered by a pressure issue, the level and condition of the transmission fluid is the first thing that should be addressed. If there are no problems, and manufacturer TSB’s and the wiring/connectors on the transmission wiring harness should be inspected. If nothing is found to be wrong, then the pressure control solenoid should be tested. Beyond that, transmission pump, valve body, and torque converter could potentially be the cause of the P2714 DTC.
